Vision for the Vulnerable – praying for vulnerable women in our city.

Since October 2015, supporters of Beloved, One25 and Spring of Hope have been meeting together at an event called Vision for the Vulnerable. Their purpose is to pray together for the most vulnerable women in Bristol – those who are experiencing crisis, who are homeless or who are sex-working.

On 7th November, Vision for the Vulnerable returned to the venue where it first began – Bristol Cathedral. Meeting in the historic and beautiful Chapter House, the event was attended by 40 people from churches all over the city.

The evening was hosted by Rev. Nicola Harris from Bristol Cathedral and opened with a time of worship before the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Maggie Cameron, shared her thoughts about the challenges facing women in Bristol and the incredible impact of volunteers.

Leaders from each organisation then held an open conversation and took questions from the congregation. Jenny Riley (One25 CEO), Julia Busfield (Beloved Director) and Nicola Saunders (Spring of Hope Manager) shared their thoughts about what motivates them to do their job, the challenges faced by women at the moment and what they’d like to say to a politician – should they have been in the room!

They shared their dreams and visions for the future. Perhaps the most inspiring things shared were the stories of the amazing, courageous women who have found hope, support and self-worth as a result of the way they were treated when they needed help most.

The evening then moved into a time of prayer – some prayers lead from the front, followed by an opportunity to spend time at different prayer stations, finding out more about the charities and praying creatively.  The evening finished with a spine-tingling version of ‘In the name of Jesus,’ sung by Mollie Emsley.

Vision for the Vulnerable meets quarterly at churches around the city. If your church would like to host an event in 2024 please contact steve.baker@inhope.uk.
