A Bristol fund supporting Foodbanks during the Covid crisis is now extending its reach to help children struggling with school.

During 2020 the Bristol Churches City Fund raised much-needed extra finance to support foodbanks across Bristol to feed thousands of families.

Whilst the food poverty campaign will continue, it is now also raising funds to help local children who are struggling with the impact of the pandemic.

Partnering with national and local charities, ‘Transforming Lives for Good’ (TLG) and Bristol Schools Connection, donations to the fund will enable churches and volunteers to join TLG’S Early Intervention programme and receive training around mentoring.

This mentoring and support is seen as a vital part of helping local children in key stage 2 and 3 cope with some of the challenges that can impact on their wellbeing.

Ann James (Service Director for Children and Families at Bristol City Council) said: ‘TLG’s role in terms of supporting vulnerable children is going to be immeasurably important and could make the difference between families staying together, children thriving and the need for statutory services coming in’.

Derek Powell, Chair of the Fund steering Group said: ‘This is a truly remarkable opportunity for Bristol Churches to have such a positive impact on the lives of many hundreds of troubled and vulnerable children across the city’.

The Bristol Churches City Fund is now open for donations and is inviting people to contribute generously.
